I have been transitioning since June ‘09 and I still can’t bring myself to do the BIG CHOP!!! Something in me is just not ready to let go of the relaxed hair *sigh*.

I was so close to doing it  a couple of weeks ago, but I chickened out… :-(    b/c what if I wanted to wear my wig again, 100% natural hair is not going to look right with it…(at least that’s what I think).  I’m pretty sure that its not advised for me to keep damaged ends with my growing natural hair…so….

Naturalistas: How did you get past this stage?

This is my current hairstyle!  I love it :-)

Why I love it/hate it: This is my favorite conditioner now…SERIOUSLY.  If you have dry hair, like me, this conditioner needs to be a part of your regimen immediately.  I bought this conditioner based off the rave reviews on the blog sites and my only regret is that I did not buy it sooner.  Once the conditioner touched my hair it felt wonderful, “silky and smooth.”  My hair was so soft and  I was able to detangle so easily :-) .  Once I rinsed the conditioner out, it was still smooth and silky, the softest it’s ever been, shinning and it smelled so fresh and so clean.  I can’t sing the praises of this conditioner enough.  I will keep purchasing and using this conditioner until forever.  A+++++ (I’m looking for a deep conditioner that is similar, any recommendations???)

A powerful earthquake struck Haiti just before 5 p.m. eastern time on Tuesday, 10 miles southwest from the capital of Port-au-Prince, causing widespread damage and unthinkable devastation.  The outpouring to prayers and support is wonderful and my prayers and condolences go out to all the people who lost friends and family in Haiti.  But Haiti also needs your monetary support!!!!

Below are a some of the many ways you can support the relief efforts in Haiti.  You can donate by texting “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill) or text “Haiti” to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross for relief support in Haiti.

I WON!  I never win anything and I won a wonderful prize.  I was at the Westchester Mall in White Plains, NY over the holiday season, shopping (one of the best in NY, especially if you like to shop high/low :-) ) and I signed up for ORIGINS “Queen For A Day” contest, I never thought I would win, but I WON!

What did I win?  A facial, hand massage and back massage.  I am super excited!  Its nothing big, but I’m excited nonetheless.  I can’t wait…I have my appointment on Monday.  I have been so stressed lately, with the many things that I have on my plate, so  this is truly a godsent.  I will be sure to blog about it Monday night.

Avocado Deep Conditioner

Ingredients:

1 avocado

1/2 cup of coconut milk

2 tablespoons of coconut oil

2 tablespoons of honey

Peel avocado and remove pit.   I slice the avocado into small pieces with a knife and then placed in blender,  followed by the coconut milk, honey  and coconut oil then I let the mixer do its job.  Make sure you let the ingredients mix well as to assure the avocado is smooth and has no chucks.  Smooth mixture onto hair.  Wrap hair with a shower cap or plastic wrap and leave on hair for about an hour.  Rinse out, shampoo and condition as usual.  *found this recipe on Naturally Fly – check her out, she has some great style videos*

Conditioner

Ingredients:

1 peeled and mashed Avocado

1 cup Coconut milk

Directions:
Combine mashed avocado with some coconut milk in a small bowl. Heat in microwave for approx. 45 seconds, stir, test temperature and massage mixture into hair. Wrap hair in a hot towel or cover with shower cap for 15 minutes. Shampoo & rinse out.   Click here for original recipe.

**I tried both a these homemade conditioners over the holiday break (had a week off from work and no real vacation plans) and they worked wonderfully :-)   Both conditioner are great for adding moisture to hair and made my hair very shiny and healthy(looking).   I was on moisture overload because I knew I was going to start protective styling my hair right after, and sure enough on Monday I got my hair done (will share story on that later). **

Myron Butler & Levi “Revealed”

After reading so many great reviews on Giovanni’s products, I bought two of their most blogged about conditioners:  Tea Tree Triple Treat Invigorating Conditioner and Smooth as Silk Deeper Moisture.

The Cost: $7.99

Ingredients: Aqua (Purified Water) with Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract, Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Officinalis) Oil, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract, Tussilago Farfara (Coltsfoot) Flower Extract, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Leaf Extract, Equisetum Arvense Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Achellea Millefolium Extract, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Brassicamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Panthenol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hydroxypropyl Guar, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Menthol, Polysorbate 60, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance With Essential Oils.

Why I love it/hate it: I absolutely loved this conditioner! I washed my hair with my trusty Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Shampoo and then applied the conditioner.  The conditioner felt great on my hair and the tingling sensation made me feel like it was doing what it was suppose to do “strengthen, stimulate, condition, and calm hair.”  After thoroughly rinsing the conditioner out of my hair, my hair was very shiny, and I still had the tingling sensation and that combination made me feel good :-) .  The only negative comment I have about this conditioner is that my hair felt really hard after rinsing.  (Is this common???) Usually conditioners leave my hair feeling very silky smooth, but this one did not, so I felt the need to apply a little bit of a softening conditioner on my hair and rinse again.  All things considered, I will definitely use this conditioner regularly.
